Politics as a Necessary Evil

        Picture of Yohanna Sunday Atiku

Yes, nowadays, I see politics as a necessary evil.

Even when people complain that a government is failing and demand change, those who campaign to replace it often end up repeating the same practices—or doing even worse.

Political godfatherism is real and difficult to avoid. If you do not belong to the system, no matter how good your plans are or how honest your intentions may be, powerful interests will work against you.

The political system also promotes power-sharing arrangements such as federal character and regional balance. For example, if a president comes from the North, it is often expected that the next leader must come from the South or another region—sometimes regardless of performance. This is the reality of our politics. If you cannot align with it, you are pushed aside.

Because of these realities, trying to change the system from within becomes extremely difficult. That is why I describe politics as a necessary evil—something no one can completely escape, no matter how clean or well-intentioned they are.

Demographic Pressure and Insecurity in Nigeria: A Shared Responsibility.

Insecurity in Nigeria cannot be explained by a single cause or blamed on one group alone. Parents, religious leaders, and government institutions all play interconnected roles in shaping society.

When families raise children without care, guidance, or basic support, those children become vulnerable to negative influences.

At the same time, it is unrealistic to expect families to succeed on their own in an environment of poverty, unemployment, and weak social systems.

When families fail, the responsibility should not end there. The state is expected to intervene through quality education, social welfare, security, and economic opportunities.

Unfortunately, when government institutions are weakened by corruption, poor planning, greed, conversion of public fund to private use, and neglect, large numbers of young people are left stranded.

In such gaps, frustration grows, and survival instincts take over, revenge manifest, making crime and violence more attractive options.

When both family structures and state systems collapse, extremist ideologies often step in to fill the vacuum.

Some religious or ideological actors exploit hunger, ignorance, and anger by offering identity or material support in exchange for loyalty and violence.

Until parents take responsibility for proper upbringing, religious leaders promote teachings that value peace and human dignity, and governments provide effective governance and social protection, insecurity will continue to thrive. Sustainable security can only emerge when all three are addressed together.

This means that blaming parents, government, or religious institutions alone for insecurity in Nigeria is unfair and does not reflect the full reality of the problem.

Beyond Lim Youth Day

Lim, Tafawa Balewa, Bauchi State | January 26, 2025.

What was once considered difficult has become a reality as the people of Lim recorded a historic milestone with the successful hosting of Lim Youth Day 2025.

The event marked a turning point in community engagement and unity, bringing together youths and stakeholders from across Lim in what many describe as the first practical step toward collective development.

The success of Lim Youth Day reflects the leadership and commitment of the Lim Youth Chief, Mr. Dogara Simon Magaji, whose efforts have begun to yield tangible results. Prior to the event, announcements were made on available platforms such as churches, phone calls and messages, several virtual engagements were held to create awareness and mobilize participation, demonstrating a modern and inclusive approach to community organization.

A major highlight of the event was the emergence of the First Miss Zaar Lim, a cultural and community-based beauty pageant designed to promote identity, youth participation, and social responsibility which Miss Ristor Amos emerged as the winer.

The event took place on 26 December 2025 at Lim Market Square.

Lim Youth Day 2025 attracted notable dignitaries, including Professor Elisha, Comrade Iliya Emmanuel (Chairman, ZAYODA Tafawa Balewa Branch), Mr. Kefas Kura (Sarkin Yara Zaar Chiefdom), Peace Ambassador Mr. Dawomdah Joseph Mandes, and other respected stakeholders, further underscoring the growing recognition of Lim’s development aspirations.

Beyond celebration, the Lim Youth Day 2025 Planning Committee unveiled key proposed initiatives aimed at sustainable development. These include the renovation of the Lim Community Health Centre, the engagement of indigenous teachers to support local schools, and other people-focused projects.

Participant's seen at Lim Market Square

The success of Lim Youth Day has also revived discussions around the long-anticipated Lim Day, envisioned as a broader and more inclusive annual event involving all sons and daughters of Lim. Community stakeholders believe that with proper planning, transparency, and inclusiveness, Lim Youth Day can serve as the foundation for this wider vision.

A letter from the office of First Miss Zaar Lim 2025.

To ensure continuity and impact, stakeholders have emphasized the need for:
1. A recognized and standard leadership structure
2. A functional constitution to guide operations and project execution
3. A Lim Development Association corporate account to promote transparency and accountability.
4. An inclusive congress body involving all Lim Branch Chairmen and Secretaries.

    Picture from the event.

Lim Youth Day 2025 has therefore emerged not just as an event, but as a movement—signaling a renewed commitment to unity, responsible leadership, and sustainable development in Lim.
