My Views on Paying Ransom in Nigeria for Kidnapped Victims

Kidnapping has become one of the most painful security challenges facing Nigeria today. Each time a victim is taken, families are thrown into fear, confusion, and desperation.

In such moments, emotions naturally take over, and many people support any action that may bring the victim home safely.

I understand that feeling.

When I first watched a recent video of a kidnapped victim in terrible condition, I was deeply moved. Emotionally, I supported any method that could secure his release.

But after careful reflection, I began to think differently.

The truth is that when dealing with kidnapping, emotions alone cannot guide our decisions. We must focus on practical and long-term solutions that will protect both present and future victims.

If there are no strong and well-planned rescue strategies in place, paying ransom should not be accepted as the answer.

When ransom is paid and the victim is released alive, kidnappers become richer and stronger. That money can be used to buy more weapons, expand their operations, and plan more kidnappings.
The victim may return home, but the larger problem remains unresolved. The cycle simply continues.

Even worse, there are cases where ransom is paid and the victim is still killed, while the criminals escape with the money. In such cases, crime is rewarded, innocent lives are lost, and insecurity deepens.
This is why ransom payment cannot be seen as a lasting solution to kidnapping in Nigeria for now.

If our security agencies are unable to develop effective rescue systems, intelligence operations, and preventive strategies, then Citizens keep raising millions or billions in ransom only reflects weakness in our response to crime.

Nigeria must invest more in intelligence gathering, surveillance technology, border control, community policing, and rapid-response rescue operations.

Until our security architecture becomes stronger and more effective, we must continue to question why ransom payments are still treated as a normal option.

Paying ransom may solve one case temporarily, but it often strengthens the system of kidnapping itself.
Nigeria deserves better solutions.

Thank you.

Putting the Controversy to Rest: First-Class or not First-Class.

 *The publication continues that*
".......His emergence followed the provisions of the Zaar Chiefdom Law 2025, which guided the transparent election process....".

This was contained in a press release signed by Khadija Danladi Hassan Kobi, Information Officer, Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Bauchi State, dated Sunday, October 26, 2025.

So let the issue of FIRST CLASS should be put to rest now.

With the little findings I have done both by searching for public record sources and having a private discussion on the matter with some people. I won't comment on this issue again.

I have been convinced that he is a FIRST-CLASS Chief .

Can Any Chiefdom in Nigeria Truly Survive without Politics?

The concern that Zaar culture is beginning to embrace politics is understandable, especially given the sensitivity of identity, tradition, and leadership.

However, it is important to ask a sincere and practical question: *Is there any chiefdom in Nigeria today that can truly survive without politics?*

The reality is that no chiefdom operates in isolation from political structures.

Across the country, traditional institutions—whether among the Yoruba traditional institutions or the Hausa-Fulani emirate system—exist and function within frameworks that are recognized and supported by government.

The creation of chiefdoms, the approval of traditional rulers, and even the establishment of administrative structures are all tied, in one way or another, to political processes.

This does not mean that culture is being replaced by politics. Rather, it shows that politics and tradition often coexist, especially in a modern state like Nigeria.

The real issue, therefore, is not whether politics is involved—but how it is managed.

If politics is used as a tool to:

1. Promote unity
2. Bring development
3. Secure recognition and rights for the people

Then it becomes beneficial.

But if it is allowed to:

1. Create division
2. Undermine tradition
3. Promote personal or sectional interests

Then it becomes a problem.

In the case of the Zaar people, what should matter most is that our culture, values, and identity remain strong and respected, regardless of any political connection.

The establishment of the Chiefdom and related developments should be seen as an opportunity to strengthen our heritage, not weaken it.

Therefore, instead of seeing politics as a threat, we should focus on ensuring that it is guided with wisdom, fairness, and a deep respect for our traditions.

Politics may be inevitable, but preserving our culture is a responsibility we must all uphold.

The Naming of Z.D.A. Secretariat After Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.

There are understandably different perspectives regarding the naming of the Z.D.A. Secretariat after the current Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (Kauran Bauchi).

Some individuals may view it from Perspective A: that this recognition is a way of appreciating and immortalizing the Governor’s decisive and courageous step in assenting to the Zaar Chiefdom Law—despite criticisms—which ultimately led to the historic installation of Brigadier General Kokko Yake (Rtd.) as the Gung Zaar I of the Zaar Chiefdom.

Others may see it from Perspective B: that such an honour could have been used to recognize one of the many heroes and sons of Zaarland who have contributed immensely to the struggle and development of the people.

Whichever perspective one holds, it is important to acknowledge that both viewpoints deserve understanding and respect.

However, beyond these differing opinions, the most significant achievement remains clear:

The Zaar Chiefdom has been established, and the Z.D.A. Secretariat has been successfully commissioned in Tafawa Balewa for the collective benefit, progress, and unity of our people.

At this point in our history, what matters most is not the name alone, but the purpose it serves. The Secretariat stands as a symbol of growth, recognition, and a new chapter for the Zaar people.

Regardless of linguistic or cultural differences reflected in the name, it should unite rather than divide us.

Let us therefore embrace this development with maturity and a spirit of togetherness. Our strength lies in our unity, mutual respect, and shared vision for a peaceful and prosperous Zaarland.

By focusing on what binds us rather than what separates us, we can build a stronger, more inclusive future for generations to come.

Response to Sharing Sensitive Matters on Facebook

 On involving social media (Facebook):

This was neither accidental nor due to unpreparedness. What you are seeing today is something I have carefully thought about for over six years, dating back to 2019/2020.

Although I have spent recent years in Lagos, I am not unaware of the issue at hand.

Without doubt, this is an internal matter that should be resolved internally. I strongly believe that we have capable elders and traditional rulers who are entrusted with the responsibility of handling such issues affecting Lim.

This is not a choice for them—it is a duty. I am only a young person among many.

Expecting me to raise such concerns before those responsible take action places a burden on me that I should not have to carry.

Why bring this to social media?

In the past, journalists would physically investigate such matters and report them, thereby calling attention and holding responsible parties accountable. Social media now serves a similar purpose, especially for communities like Lim that may not receive such direct coverage.

Taking this matter to social media was not an attempt to resolve it, but to remind those responsible of their duties. Accountability remains theirs, not mine.

*You may ask why I did not approach the elders or relevant parties directly.*

That is a fair question. However, the simple answer is: *it is not my duty to do so.

 In conclusion:

My intention was not to settle this issue on social media, but to call attention to it and remind our elders that addressing such sensitive internal matters is their responsibility, not mine.

Thank you.

Politics as a Necessary Evil

        Picture of Yohanna Sunday Atiku

Yes, nowadays, I see politics as a necessary evil.

Even when people complain that a government is failing and demand change, those who campaign to replace it often end up repeating the same practices—or doing even worse.

Political godfatherism is real and difficult to avoid. If you do not belong to the system, no matter how good your plans are or how honest your intentions may be, powerful interests will work against you.

The political system also promotes power-sharing arrangements such as federal character and regional balance. For example, if a president comes from the North, it is often expected that the next leader must come from the South or another region—sometimes regardless of performance. This is the reality of our politics. If you cannot align with it, you are pushed aside.

Because of these realities, trying to change the system from within becomes extremely difficult. That is why I describe politics as a necessary evil—something no one can completely escape, no matter how clean or well-intentioned they are.

Demographic Pressure and Insecurity in Nigeria: A Shared Responsibility.

Insecurity in Nigeria cannot be explained by a single cause or blamed on one group alone. Parents, religious leaders, and government institutions all play interconnected roles in shaping society.

When families raise children without care, guidance, or basic support, those children become vulnerable to negative influences.

At the same time, it is unrealistic to expect families to succeed on their own in an environment of poverty, unemployment, and weak social systems.

When families fail, the responsibility should not end there. The state is expected to intervene through quality education, social welfare, security, and economic opportunities.

Unfortunately, when government institutions are weakened by corruption, poor planning, greed, conversion of public fund to private use, and neglect, large numbers of young people are left stranded.

In such gaps, frustration grows, and survival instincts take over, revenge manifest, making crime and violence more attractive options.

When both family structures and state systems collapse, extremist ideologies often step in to fill the vacuum.

Some religious or ideological actors exploit hunger, ignorance, and anger by offering identity or material support in exchange for loyalty and violence.

Until parents take responsibility for proper upbringing, religious leaders promote teachings that value peace and human dignity, and governments provide effective governance and social protection, insecurity will continue to thrive. Sustainable security can only emerge when all three are addressed together.

This means that blaming parents, government, or religious institutions alone for insecurity in Nigeria is unfair and does not reflect the full reality of the problem.

Beyond Lim Youth Day

Lim, Tafawa Balewa, Bauchi State | January 26, 2025.

What was once considered difficult has become a reality as the people of Lim recorded a historic milestone with the successful hosting of Lim Youth Day 2025.

The event marked a turning point in community engagement and unity, bringing together youths and stakeholders from across Lim in what many describe as the first practical step toward collective development.

The success of Lim Youth Day reflects the leadership and commitment of the Lim Youth Chief, Mr. Dogara Simon Magaji, whose efforts have begun to yield tangible results. Prior to the event, announcements were made on available platforms such as churches, phone calls and messages, several virtual engagements were held to create awareness and mobilize participation, demonstrating a modern and inclusive approach to community organization.

A major highlight of the event was the emergence of the First Miss Zaar Lim, a cultural and community-based beauty pageant designed to promote identity, youth participation, and social responsibility which Miss Ristor Amos emerged as the winer.

First Miss Zaar and her Parents during Lim youth Day 2025.

The event took place on 26 December 2025 at Lim Market Square.

Lim Youth Day 2025 attracted notable dignitaries, including Professor Elisha, Comrade Iliya Emmanuel (Chairman, ZAYODA Tafawa Balewa Branch), Mr. Kefas Kura (Sarkin Yara Zaar Chiefdom), Peace Ambassador Mr. Dawomdah Joseph Mandes, and other respected stakeholders, further underscoring the growing recognition of Lim’s development aspirations.

Beyond celebration, the Lim Youth Day 2025 Planning Committee unveiled key proposed initiatives aimed at sustainable development. These include the renovation of the Lim Community Health Centre, the engagement of indigenous teachers to support local schools, and other people-focused projects.

Participant's seen at Lim Market Square

The success of Lim Youth Day has also revived discussions around the long-anticipated Lim Day, envisioned as a broader and more inclusive annual event involving all sons and daughters of Lim. Community stakeholders believe that with proper planning, transparency, and inclusiveness, Lim Youth Day can serve as the foundation for this wider vision.

A letter from the office of First Miss Zaar Lim 2025.

To ensure continuity and impact, stakeholders have emphasized the need for:
1. A recognized and standard leadership structure
2. A functional constitution to guide operations and project execution
3. A Lim Development Association corporate account to promote transparency and accountability.
4. An inclusive congress body involving all Lim Branch Chairmen and Secretaries.

    Picture from the event.

Lim Youth Day 2025 has therefore emerged not just as an event, but as a movement—signaling a renewed commitment to unity, responsible leadership, and sustainable development in Lim.

Brief History of Lim Forum

History of Lim Forum

The story of Lim Forum began on 7th October 2019, when Lim The 21st Century was founded by Yohanna Sunday Atiku. The initiative was created to promote enlightenment, unity, and recognition for the Lim people. It operated through Facebook and WhatsApp, attracting 254 members, mostly youths from all Lim communities: Limbisa, Limkasa, Limsabon Gari, Limdadin Kowa, Limtsakani, and Limtsohorfada.

Early Challenges:

Despite its early promise, Lim The 21st Century encountered several obstacles:

1. Officials were elected, yet no significant achievements followed.
2. Weak leadership and lack of clear development strategies slowed progress.
3. Most objectives remained unfulfilled.
4. Only one major activity—the annual sports competition—was successfully organized.
5. The founder had to reassess and restructure the entire initiative alone.

These limitations made it clear that the group needed a new direction.

The Transformation:

On 26th February 2025, a two-month public notice of transition was issued.
By 26th April 2025, Lim Forum officially took over, replacing Lim The 21st Century.

The transformation included:

1. A new name
2. A new logo
3. A new cover image
4. A refreshed group description

A stronger vision for unity and community development

From Sayawa Chiefdom to Zaar Chiefdom

Before Now, Some People Called it Sayawa Chiefdom.

When the Chiefdom was officially given, it changes from Sayawa Chiefdom to Zaar Chiefdom.

Up to now some people don't know why this changes is the best.

The change from Sayawa Chiefdom to Zaar Chiefdom is mainly rooted in identity, history, and cultural correctness. Here are the key reasons usually associated with such a change:

✅ 1. Recognition of the People’s Correct Indigenous Name.

“Zaar” is the actual ethnic/indigenous name of the people, while “Sayawa” was a name given to them by Hausa speakers.

Zaar = what the people call themselves.

Sayawa = an external/borrowed name.

So the shift shows that the government is now recognizing the true cultural identity of the people.

✅ 2. Cultural Pride and Self-Definition

Ethnic groups globally prefer to be addressed by their original name.
Changing from Sayawa to Zaar helps:

A. Preserve cultural heritage

B. Promote unity

C. Correct misrepresentations about the group’s roots and language

✅ 3. Avoiding Confusion Between Name and Culture.

Some people associate “Sayawa” with:

A. a language name

B. a nickname used historically

But Zaar is broader and more accurate as the name of the entire ethnic nation.

✅ 4. Political and Administrative Clarity

When a chiefdom is officially created, the government must use the name that:

i. The people prefer.

ii. Reflects the correct historical identity.

iii. Aligns with documented ethnographic records.

This makes Zaar Chiefdom the proper official name.

✅ 5. Symbolic Restoration

The change also reflects:

i. Respect for the people’s struggle for recognition.

ii. Restoration of their original name after years of using the externally imposed “Sayawa”.

iii. For many communities, an official name carries dignity and historical justice.

In Summary:

They changed from Sayawa Chiefdom to Zaar Chiefdom to honor the people’s authentic identity, correct historical naming, promote cultural pride, and present an accurate representation of the ethnic group in government records.
